wiki playing to learn

PLAYING TO LEARN: Review 2 Games

Making a good game is hard. Making a good game that teaches the player something is even harder! Think about how these games use the play experience to teach a learning concept. Write a detailed review (not just short answers) of two games.
GAME REVIEW #1: MOST EFFECTIVE Learning Game
  • Name of the game that taught you the MOST about its learning topic:Bullseye
  • What social issue or educational topic does the game explore? It's just a fun game.
  • What can you learn from this game? How to shoot a bow.
  • What game genre is it?Sports. Do you think this genre is a good choice for creating a learning game? Not really. Why or why not?Because you don't learn nothing about like school.
  • Design Analysis (Does it look good? Does it clearly illustrate the issue or learning concept?) Yeah. It helps you learn how to shoot a bow at a board.
  • Usability Analysis (Is it clear what you need to do as a player? Does it work well?)Yeah it's clear what you need to do. Yeah it works good.
  • Suggestions for improvement. How would you change the gameplay to make the learning and play experience work together better? I wouldn't change it.
  • List 2-3 things that you would like to learn how to do (in terms of functionality, design or content)I would like to know how to make a game where you shoot animals with a bow or gun.
GAME REVIEW #2: LEAST EFFECTIVE Learning Game
  • Name of the game that taught you the LEAST about its learning topic:Medical Mysteries
  • What social issue or educational topic does the game explore?I guess medical things.
  • What can you learn from this game?Noting.
  • What game genre is it?Adventure. Do you think this genre is a good choice for creating a learning game? No. Why or why not?Because nothing actiony is happening.
  • Design Analysis (Does it look good? No. Does it clearly illustrate the issue or learning concept?)Sort of.
  • Usability Analysis (Is it clear what you need to do as a player? Does it work well?)No.
  • Suggestions for improvement. How would you change the gameplay to make the learning and play experience work together better?Better drawings.
  • List 2-3 things that you would like to learn how to do (in terms of functionality, design or content)I wouldn't.
